Why creative people NEED a routine

Why creative people NEED a routine

This sounds supremely counterintuitive, because creative people, by their very nature resist anything that maintains the status quo – and let’s be honest, a routine, by definition, is part of the status quo.

No one in my real life supports what I love to do.

No one in my real life supports what I love to do.

It’s really, really hard to keep doing your own thing when no one around you understands what you are doing, or why you are doing it, right?

Maybe it’s your creative choices. Maybe it’s your refusal to have a “real” job.

Whatever it is, the people who you live with don’t get it.

How do I make myself finish the projects I start?

How do I make myself finish the projects I start?

If you are a creative, multi-passionate person, you tend to have a million projects going at once, right?

An idea hits you, you jump right in, and you are so freaking excited that you can’t wait to wake up and work on it every day.

Until the next really cool idea hits you.

Community over competition

Community over competition

When I first started my business, I was a Virtual Assistant, and later, I designed websites. In my early days, my first instinct when I met someone else who did the same sort of thing I did was to put my guard up. I mean, they are actively competing for the same jobs...

Be more like Roy Kent.

Be more like Roy Kent.

Roy Kent! Roy Kent! He’s here! He’s there! He’s every-f—ing-where! Roy Kent! Roy Kent!” If you haven't watched Ted Lasso yet, I strongly suggest you get on it. There are a million things to like about this show, and not the least of them is that Ted Lasso himself is...

Q&A: Is starting a business the right move for me?

Q&A: Is starting a business the right move for me?

Q: Hey Amanda! I've been thinking about starting a business for awhile, but I don't have a lot of support from my husband. I mean, financially, he is the main breadwinner, but when I start talking about the things I'd like to do, he just changes the subject of flat...

Is Work/Life Balance Even Possible?

Is Work/Life Balance Even Possible?

I'll be completely honest. There was a time in my life that I thought the whole idea of work/life balance was complete BS. This was also the period of my life where I was working like 90 hours a week, and raising three toddlers. I'm a Sagittarius...I'll sleep when I'm...

5 People You Should Work With Right Now (Ok, Actually 6)

I've been in the world of internet business for fourteen years. I've worked with and know some pretty big names in the general industry, but that doesn't mean this post is about people who are mega-successful, or generally you already probably have heard of. These are...

5 Ways To Start Your 2021 Right

5 Ways To Start Your 2021 Right

2020 isn't likely to rank very high on anyone's best-year-ever scale. I know for me, the time was spent...but it was not spent well. It was a year of frustration, overwhelm, loneliness, too much time with the people we love (yes, that's totally a thing), and a lot of...

What if your sign doesn’t feel like it should be your sign?

What if your sign doesn’t feel like it should be your sign?

It might seem like I’m beating a dead horse over here with my insistence that you need to know and understand your sun + rising signs to run your business really well. I promise, it’s really, really true. I’ve been running my business for fourteen years, and only...

Your Rising Sign and how it affects Your Life + Business

Your Rising Sign and how it affects Your Life + Business

There are people who outright refuse to believe that the stars, planets and other astrological aspects have anything to do with us and our lives - or that God uses them to communicate with us. And there are people who believe that it’s a thing, but are overwhelmed by...

A Peek Inside My Morning Ritual

A Peek Inside My Morning Ritual

It took me years to realize that a morning ritual was the key to me having a successful day. You might call it a routine - but don’t say it to me, because I hate that word with every fiber of my being. I don’t do routines.  Besides, rituals are way more magical than...

Either I Will Find a Way – Or I Will Make One

Either I Will Find a Way – Or I Will Make One

Either I will find a way, or I will make one. This is the quote that drives me. Whenever I feel like there is no way around the roadblock in front of me, I recall this quote and I know that there is nothing that will stop me. Around the year 218 B.C., Hannibal, the...

Remember when you used to be confident?

Remember when you used to be confident?

After I paid off my debt, I was on such a high. I thought if I could pay off that much debt in under 3 years, there wasn't anything I couldn't do. And not only that, I'd built a business from nothing but my own grit, I'd taught myself to design websites, and I had...

The 5 Coolest Things Starting My Biz Has Done For Me

Where do I even start with this? Before I started my business, I was bored out of my mind. I mean, I was busy... I had three toddlers. But changing diapers, cleaning, cooking...it just wasn't enough, and wasn't ever going to be enough. If you've read my book (Mom vs...

Build your business to bring in $10k a month (or more).

Taking the entrepreneurial path isn't an easy thing to do. Sticking with it is even harder. And perhaps the hardest of all is taking risks when what you've been doing has been working - or working well enough. About two years ago, when I had been running my business...

I Love My Kids – But I Don’t Even Know Who I Am Anymore.

I Love My Kids – But I Don’t Even Know Who I Am Anymore.

My oldest son is four months away from being seventeen. He reminded me of that this morning. This is madness to me. How did the last seventeen years pass by so quickly? I vividly remember the day he was born. I was induced at 7am, but by 7pm, my baby was still in my...

Becoming More of Yourself

Becoming More of Yourself

A voice in my head has been bugging me to make this video for DAYS. Another voice was telling me not to because... A ) Who is even going to watch it. B ) Why would anyone even care. C ) I don't have a "Pro" environment in which to do it. All of that is just BS. So I...

I’d rather be a unicorn

I’d rather be a unicorn

Most little girls love princesses. They want to be a princess. I was not most little girls. Being a princess has not ever held any kind of draw for me. To me, being a princess means a confined life. One where you do what you are told. You listen to the rules. And you...

Hustle Your Own Way

Hustle Your Own Way

I am a MONSTROUS fan of Gary Vaynerchuk. I've been paying attention to him for years. I find his videos to be relevant and the "audio experience" is my go-to for the treadmill. His hustle is total #goals. However, I'm a realistic gal. I know that I will not ever have...

How Can I Have A Schedule When I’d Rather Be Spontaneous

How Can I Have A Schedule When I’d Rather Be Spontaneous

When I plan a vacation, the only thing I really plan is the destination and where we will be staying. I prefer to keep things open to possibility. Which isn't to say I don't have things I want to see and do - just that I have not ever, and I mean EVER, been okay with...
